Learning Theory

One of the teachers I have been observing used behaviorism in his classroom a lot. He does this by encouraging the children to participate in a Friday putt problem. this takes place during math time on Fridays. during this time any students who get the problem right are allowed to putt a golf ball into a metal can and if they are successful they receive candy prizes.  this was one of the more prominent examples of behaviorism that I saw in the classroom. for the most part, all the children who try hard to answer the problem end up putting and receiving at least one piece of candy.

Another teacher often uses cognitivism to help her first graders remember and process information, she often has them draw pictures and label them with information to help them remember science facts. she helps them make science books on specific topics. such as a water book we made the other day. she helped them label streams puddles, rivers, and lakes. and recognize key differences such as fish live in rivers and lakes but not in streams and puddles. water is actively moving in rivers and streams but not in puddles or lakes.
